DO YOU HAVE CAREER ADD?
Eleven Signs That You Are Afflicted
Today, many of us are afflicted with distractions and are wired to get off track easily. If you find yourself in a job or career where you experience any of the following, you are in the right place:
- Overwhelmed with the tasks in your job that you simply despise.
- Are bored with the work you do every day or the majority of the day.
- Your relationships at your job are suffering because of your distractibility or ADD.
- Have amazing, creative ideas about what you would love to do, but can’t seem to get focused long enough to take the next step and do something about it.
- Notice that your personal relationships at work and at home are suffering because you are miserable in your career or job.
- Get a sick feeling in your stomach every time someone asks you to do one more task at work that you dread?
- Feel that you are not serving the world with what you are meant to do because you can’t get focused long enough to even think about it?
- Flit from one task to another, while the papers pile up on your desk because you can’t even focus on one task long enough to get it done?
- Lose patience with those around you because you are not happy?
- Respond negatively in meetings at work because you feel trapped?
- If you are an executive – bark orders to those you manage or who support you and provide no information or deadlines and expect them to just get it done so you can move on to the next thing.
MY STORY
For years, I suffered with all of the above. I had ADD and did not even know it until I was finally diagnosed in 2008. After that, it was like the sea parted and every answer to my “Why me?” questions were answered. My diagnosis also answered the question about how I was able to create a successful international art franchise (www.kidzart.com), but spent far too long obsessing over it when I should have moved on.
You see, those of us with ADD - diagnosed or undiagnosed (and my guess is that you know who you are), can hyper-focus when we are excited, passionate and taking on the world, and then get in trouble when we forget about life’s little details. The Law of Attraction doesn’t always work when you are easily distracted.
Today, I am back to living my true calling, which is now to provide Career Counseling and Coaching to those with ADD or afflicted with the distraction factor in all stages of our career lives – and then to finally make the changes in a way that aligns with our distracted nature. My experience as a Career Counselor, Coach and Mentor spans some 22 years and, my career experiences along the way have taken me in new and exciting directions – all stemming from my original Roadmap. For those of us with ADD, this Roadmap is CRITICAL as it gives us a framework and acts as a safe haven. Today, my goal is to help you to create your Roadmap and to coach you on when it is time to take the next fork in the road that will lead to more purpose, excitement, passion and fulfillment in your work life. It IS possible to have it all.
